Apr 2022: Healthtech Edit

Thank you for the warm welcome Cicada community! As the incoming Head of Health Tech, I am very excited to work with the many talented researchers, clinicians, and innovators working across medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital health who solve the many complex problems that need to be addressed to improve our healthcare system.

I have spent the past 16 years in the Australian and international healthcare sector as an entrepreneur, researcher and executive. I look forward to building upon the great foundations to grow Cicada's health tech programs and help Cicada Health Tech community expand its impact.

In a time when funding into the healthtech sector is at a record high, it is important to invest early in people and teams to increase their capabilities to successfully bring their inventions to the market. The best ideas and research have significant value once our patients and clinicians can use and benefit from them.

As a collaborator, I want to foster multidisciplinary collaborations in this space to bring together different deep technologies solving similar yet multifaceted complex problems, including cancer detection and treatment, healthy aging, and chronic disease management to name a few. We also start to see the definition of health broaden to include environmental and societal factors, which, in my view, will lead to deep technologies in these areas having a growing impact on the health care sector.
