Feb 2022: National Space Industry Hub Update
After months of planning, preparation, and a few false starts (thanks to Covid), last Thursday we were able to officially launch the National Space Industry Hub.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the occasion. They say it takes a village to raise a startup, and that village was definitely assembled on Thursday night. I also want to recognise the hard work and efforts that have gone into growing the space sector in NSW and Australia and we’re excited to play our role in the continued growth of the ecosystem.
Special thank you to Enrico Palermo from the Australian Space Agency for making the trip from Canberra to join us. The National Space Industry Hub would not be possible without the vision and support from the NSW Government, and we want to thank Minister Henskens, for helping us to officially launch the Space Hub. Watch a highlights video of the night here.
Good to see the Space Hub launch and Australia’s growing space industry recognised in the national press too!
How you can get involved in the Space Hub
The National Space Industry Hub is more than just a physical space, we’ll also be providing resources, mentoring, coaching, and commercialisation training programs for space entrepreneurs, employees, emerging space ventures, and researchers across Australia.
Space Foundations
A free online course to build entrepreneurial capacity in the next generation of innovators is live. Foundations is delivered by expert faculty including Tim Parsons and Bill Bartee, with supporting case studies, resources and activities. Work at your own pace, in your own time, and from anywhere.
Fast Start
Applications are open for our bespoke 6 month coaching program for high potential deep tech teams looking to take a quantum leap in their commercialisation journey. This week we welcomed the first participants; Extraterrestrial Power, which aims to support space missions by producing advanced silicon solar cells, and Amentum Aerospace which specialises in predictive scientific modelling software to enhance operational planning for space missions. We’ll keep you updated on their Fast Start journey.
Become a hub resident
Join the likes of LeoLabs, Mawson Rover, and Space Industry Association Australia by becoming a resident at the Space Hub. You’ll have access to unique office space, lab and prototyping facilities, plus our community of over 450+ deep tech innovators working at Cicada.
Join the community
We’ll host regular meetups, workshops, and networking opportunities for the space community to connect. Our next space hub event will be with Dan Ceperley CEO and Founder, where he’ll share his journey building a space tech startup in Silicon Valley and his advice for budding founders.
We want the hub to be a thriving community of space entrepreneurs, but also a gathering place for the broader ecosystem to connect, meet, host events and drive community and collaboration. So if you want to be involved in the hub, please reach out.
